What are our Funding Goals?

The Lion Research Center's Funding Objective is:

"To seek donors to fund lion research and conservation projects underway or planned in Africa."





3 Year Project Budget

Project 1. Reintroduction of Lions into South Africa $250,000
The details about this project are located on this website in the separate section titled "Reintroduction of lions in South Africa"
 
Project 2. U.S. Activities for the Lion Reseach Center $171,960
Research projects with Zoos nationwide including assessing the affect different diets have on Lions, plus provide educational lectures to the public about lion research and conservation efforts.
 
Project 3. Lion Mane Research Funded until 1999
Currently funded until 1999 when research will expand following new leads/results.

Note: Zoo research will support this effort. Zoos throughout the US will change the diet of lions to see what kind of effect diet has on manes. (See above.)

 
Project 4. DNA Genetics $250,000
4.1 Identifying inbred lion prides in Africa and possible consequences.
4.2 Tracing lions dead for thousands of years back to the cat family tree.
 
Project 5. Lion Menopause Research $5,000

Project 6. Equipment for the Lion House in the Serengeti $3,000
A satellite phone and fax is needed in the Serengeti to allow communication between field researchers and other researchers around the world.
 
Total Funding Required to continue these Research Projects $679,950
