Reintroduction of Lions in South African Parks
This paper was written by Dr.Packer to seek contributions for supporting lion
conservation, as well as the reintroduction of lion prides into the South
African parks of Hluhluwe-Umfolozi, Kruger, Madikwe, Makalali, Phinda, and
Pilansberg.
1999 Press Release
On July 28, 1999, three male and three female lions were moved from Pilanesberg
Game Reserve to the northern part of the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park (HUP) as part of
a larger program to strengthen the genetic viability of lions in the
Park.
